Blog Express, Zen & Millionaire Mommies

August 25, 2008

If you expressed your interest in joining the Blog Express - don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about you. I’m sending emails out this week.

Today, I discovered a new blog: The Millionaire Mommy Next Door. Her posts are interesting and insightful. But some of her commenters are the types you’d cross the street to avoid - in fact, you’d take your chances, even if a double decker bus was coming towards you.

The blogger is a woman who has patiently worked towards her goal of achieving financial freedom, to enable her to adopt a child and stay at home to care for her. And she’s generous enough to share her knowledge & wisdom with others. But some people are never satisfied.

In the article - “Is Your But Too Big?” the author showed a huge list of excuses folk make, beginning with the word “but” - each one accompanied by an hilarious picture. She then went on to explain the benefits of thinking positively.

And here’s a response she got: Is there any evidence (scientific or anecdotal) that thinking good thoughts DOES improve your life? That thinking positively, in and of itself, can really change anything?

Clearly, I’m a cynic, but I’m one who could benefit - IF IT’S WORTH THE EFFORT. And, for me, it *would* take effort to focus my thoughts on the positive.

Point me in the direction, if you know of some.

Hey Anonymous. The author has clearly put a lot of effort into the post. Why don’t you get off your lazy negative “but” and find us one person who has become successful through thinking negatively?

Something drew me back to Zen Habits today. I guess I must be telepathic. If you read this earlier post: Why I Don’t Like Zen Habits, you’ll know I was sick and tired of feeling feckless, in comparison to those productivity bloggers. But today, Leo made an extraordinary confession - he isn’t perfect at all. In fact he said,

“I’ll be the first to admit it. I take naps. I sometimes take a day or two off and feel unmotivated. I will let tasks pile up. Not all the time, not even most of the time, but sometimes.”

Isn’t that great? Now, I won’t feel nearly as bad when I’m reading his advice on how to get myself amazingly organised, knowing that I’ve probably got more chance of flying to Mars in a modified bathtub.

I found the Millionnaire Mommies blog through Annie Anderson. Have you discovered any interesting websites or blogs lately? Please share in the comments section.

I read your comment about the double decker bus… then involuntarily snorted coffee out my nose! Right on, Cath. I honestly don’t know what I do to deserve all the naysayer “yes, buts”.

Thanks for the nice compliments! Nice to meet you. Now, off to take a tour of your blog - anyone this bold earns my attention.

Hi Cath. I have NO COMMENT on THAT commenter, but you can probably read my mind…

I discovered Nanny Goats in Panties through Liz’s Blog To Show a while back. She keeps me coming back for more laughs. Check out this post http://www.nannygoatsinpanties.com/2008/08/can-openers-theyre-not-just-for-cans.html

The only thing is that she doesn’t make a habit of responding to her commenters. I miss that interaction, but I still enjoy reading her posts.

    Hi Catherine,

I love finding new blogs (as you know), and today I’m highlighting a great one…. Writer Dad. Come on by and check it out. He’s my “New Blog of the Week” (NBOTW)

As for older blogs, I don’t have any to share at this time.

Hi Chris - it’s a great blog isn’t it? I read lots of the posts on my first visit - which is unusual for me.

Hi Millionnaire Mommy - You’re welcome. I love your blog.

I think all blogs will attractive negative comments at some point - especially personal finance ones. I’ve had some really mean ones on here.

Hi Mare - she did didn’t she. Finding all those pics and adding them must have taken an age in itself.

Hi Vered - I think you’ll like it. The email is coming soon. I’ve just been thinking about how to organise it in a way that’s easy to manage for everyone.

Hi Annie - you’re welcome. I love finding new blogs through people I know. The modified bathtub would be cool. You can definitely come. It will be a bit like round the world in 80 days.

Hi Barbara - Great choice. I’m already reading Writer Dad - he’s brilliant isn’t he? My favourite article so far was the one about “Promise”.

Some people just love to be negative.
    No help for them.
Hubby often drives me nuts too. Today I asked him if his blood pressure is low and he needs to get it up. We were driving and he was firing away at other drivers with a big pile of negative s***. I was just enjoying the view and the nature. He stopped after my comment and enjoyed with me ;)

Regarding perfect people. I’m not sure there is such a thing.

About the “but” - we had a seminar once with an extraordinary leader and he cured me from that word for the longest time.
I sometimes slip back into it, especially when hubby tries to give me some business ideas…..guess I need to remember what I learned, huh?
    ;)

Hi Davina - sorry, your comment went into moderation. I will check out that blog - what an hilarious title.

Hi Nicole - Road rage is a bad thing for blood pressure isn’t it?

With regards to the “but” word - you’ve really just got to bite your tongue when you feel it coming out. I have a post in drafts about it. I’ll finish it one day

    Hi Cath -

I think you’re right that all blogs will attract negative comments at some point. When I first started blogging a couple years ago (on a different blog than I have now), someone posted a mean response and I let it bug me so much, I actually quit blogging.

I learned to apply the same principals to online relationships that apply to offline ones - it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks as long as I know I’ve done the right thing.

Hi Annie - that is terrible. I’m glad you don’t let these types get to you anymore. They’re the Internet equivalents of school bullies.

Mind you, I eventually took down my first website because of people like that two. I used to offer a free newsletter every Friday, but it became too much for me, because of other business commitments.

Some really nice people did email me and try to persuade me to continue it, because they really missed it. But a scary amount of not so nice people emailed me and threatened to sue me, because they weren’t receiving their free newsletter anymore. I didn’t have time to update the site anymore and I couldn’t stand the hassle, so I eventually took it down.

It is a great site isn’t it? I think she will help lots of people.

Got something to say?
